When it comes to keeping our bike safe, there’s plenty of options to keep those b*****d thieves away from our pride and joy. One of the simplest security devices, and an absolute must-have for all bikers, is a disc lock. These simple pocket-sized locks are made of ultra tough metals and fit around the brake disc to stop your bike from being wheeled away. Motorcycle steering locks are notoriously fragile and can be broken by most determined thieves. So the disc lock adds a much stronger deterrent to those would-be bike robbers.
To determine which disc lock is going to be best for your bike and you, we’ve kept our criteria pretty straightforward.
They must be decent quality, to keep the thieves at bay
One of the most important criteria for us, is of course that the disc lock does its job. It must be a decent study lock that’s going to keep most opportunist thieves at bay.
They must be a reasonable price
Some disc locks available offer excellent value without compromising on quality. That’s the locks we’re going to recommend, so that you’re not caught out paying £150 for something that is no better than a product half that price.
They must be practical
When you’re just stopping at the shops or have just got home from a long day at work followed by the long commute home, you want it to be simple to secure your bike with your disc lock. So we’re only looking for locks that are simple to use, and easy to carry. Let’s face it a big bulky disc lock will only get left at home and it’s no good there.

3. Mammoth Security Shackle Disc Lock
Price: £42.54 (Normally £45.99)
The 11mm hardened steel shackle on the Mammoth Security disc lock make it one of our top 5 for strength alone. In reality it’s a very close competitor to the Oxford Monster disc lock above. So we’ve opted to place this third as Oxford, for us at least, would be the go-to brand for locks. That said, there are over 70 reviews on SportsBikeShop for this lock, scoring it 4.5 stars, so they’ve got something very right with this lock.

4. Oxford Titan
Price: £16.65 (Normally £24.99)
Now don’t expect the titan to be as tough as those above, but for the price it will do a great job of keeping your bike safe when you’ve popped to the shop, or as additional security when you have a chain on the bike already. It’s made from a tough alloy steel with a 10mm locking pin. It’s easy to operate and very lightweight for those that need to carry it in their jacket pocket.

5. Oxford LeverLock
Price: £29.99
I know, I know…it’s not a disc lock, I get it. But we couldn’t miss out on a mention for the Oxford LeverLock, as it’s essentially doing the same job you want from a disc lock, simple and lightweight security. The LeverLock attaches to the throttle and brake lever, locking them shut so that your brake lever is applied and the throttle can’t be moved…immobilising the bike. At £29.99 this is a fantastic piece of additional security that’s definitely worth having. It fits grips 28mm up to 38mm.

In summary, our real favourite is the Oxford Monster. It doesn’t break the bank, it’s easy to carry around and it’s as damn tough as it looks…and the looks alone will put off most thieves. Go check it out and make sure you read the customer reviews.
